Question regarding RSS Feeds?

hi, what i want to do is, i have two pages, one page is full of text while the other has nothing on it. i was wondering if that with rss i could make the empty page automatically populate with the text found on the page with text using Rss. is this possible?

thanks

Question regarding RSS Feeds?
Yes this is possible. Basically what is needed is to parse the data contained in the file with content and transform it into RSS format with a script. This can be done in a variety of ways. First with Perl, PHP, Java, or some other language. Alternatively you can use XSLT and an XSLT processor to do the transformation for you.

Re: My feeds changed order...why?

360 has been having problems withs RSS fees all year. I have one feed

that finally updated yesterday after nearly 3 months. One of my feeds

hasn't updated since 12/31/06 and one of my feeds doesn't have dates at

all. And now my Flickr photostream isn't updating at all. I also

haven't been able to change my fees for a monty.

It is a know issue that Yahoo has "been working on" for quite some time

Yahoo 360 - RSS feeds/feed readers/entering content?

I have done a lot of Help menu research but I still don't understand how to move content from other websites like Yahoo Plus Mail into my "Feeds module" in 360. The browsers I use are Yahoo and Firefox. I have chosen some add-ons in both browsers but I start going blank after I have clicked on the RSS button on the website I want to add to my feeds module. What do I do after I click on the RSS button and what is Add to My Yahoo button for? Do I need to download the Atom feedreader for Firefox before I can enter content. What about the URL you're supposed to enter...how do you do that?

I NEED HELP!!! Thanx in advance...

How the "rss feed" icon works in Firefox?

how does firefox know that a web site has an rss feed, so that firefox

will display the "rss feed" icon for that web site?

How the "rss feed" icon works in Firefox?
Firefox looks for a rss url on the page and displays the icon if found.
Reply:Firefox knows that a website has an RSS feed by detecting a piece of

code in the script of the site. The way this works is very similar to

how a search engine knows what the site is about (by looking at

specific tags in the %26lt;head%26gt; section of the script).

%26lt;link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="{YOUR SITE

If you simply place the above %26lt;link%26gt; code in the %26lt;head%26gt; area of your

the information enclosed by { }.)

Aggregators for RSS Feeds?

Aggregators for RSS Feeds

Can anyone suggest a good Aggragator service (preferably free of charge) that can facilitate RSS Feeds well? I tried My Yahoo. Apparently, I was told there that they know of problems picking up feeds from certain vertical search engines (I'm having problems with Indeed.com and Jobster). I would greatly appreciate feedback on this. Thank you. Ben

Give NewsGator a try - http://www.newsgator.com/ they have both a web based version or clients for mobile phones or desktop computers.
Reply:If you use Firefox, there are a few different extensions like Sage that make using RSS simple and integrates right in with the browser. Actually, I'd straight out recommend using Firefox instead of I.E. in the first place, as it has a tom of add ons and puts I.E. to shame........

Why won't my RSS feed work in My Yahoo?

Why I try to add the feed below through the "Add RSS by URL" link, I get a "We couldn't find the RSS file you asked for" error message. I know that the feed exists and that it validates correctly. So what is the issue?

Why won't my RSS feed work in My Yahoo?
I had this happen to me once -- and it was because I was the first person adding the feed. I was told that the feed needs to get spidered before it can be added. In those cases, wait a few hours and try again.

Note: I just tried adding that Forrester feed to my My Yahoo! page and it worked. It may have just taken a short while, or been a temporary outage.

Portfolio news rss?

I tried the new beta of my yahoo. when I went back to the old version, the RSS feed that supplied news, on the stocks in my portfolio was gone. How do I get it back.

I searched RSS list for portfolio news but they just got me news feeds on the word portfolio.

I copied the shortcut from the orange box on this page.

Try searching for an "RSS Directory" in the search engine.

YouTube has videos explaining RSS.

You can display and provide links for your Y!A questions, your starred questions, and the news that interests you on your Y!360 and MySpace pages with an RSS feed.

http://rssonmyspace.com

http://springwidgets.com / express / getFeed/

The feed for my questions in MySpace updates faster than the one in my Y!360.

Find your list of questions.

To the right of your most recent question you will see the RSS link.

Click on it with the right button then left click on copy shortcut (URL).

Or you can double click the RSS link and then copy the URL from your address bar.

In your Y!360 click "My Page."

http://360.yahoo.com/

Click "Add a Feed (via RSS)" or click "Edit Feeds."

Right click on one of the three boxes then left click on paste (the short cut - URL).

Then save.

You can also display information from:

BBC News

Craigslist, Digg, Netflix, YouTube, and many periodicals,

and blogs from MySpace, Y!360 and other blog websites.

Yahoo answers RSS feeder for term with multiple words?

I am trying to use the rss feed for a term with multiple words in it. For example, when I try to search for "increase return" with quote in the search term, the feed is at:

However, that feed does not return anything. Is there anything I can do about that?

Yahoo answers RSS feeder for term with multiple words?
I found 13 questions with "increase return" in them.

http://answers.yahoo.com/search/search_r...

I found the link for the RSS feed below the list of questions.

You might want to use the Advanced Search page.

This is an RSS feed for Q %26amp; A with the keywords "increase" and "return" sorted by date.

It has more search results the additional feed entries are probably not what you are interested in.

however my issue is, i want to enable my site RSS ready. means my ultimate goal is to provide the contents of my site to the visitors so that they can just choose particular section of my site of theie interest and they dont have to surf the whole site to particular information.

i think i am quite clear now. i have not done this kind of job earlier so i am not sure where to start with. kindly suggest some solution with an example of similar functionality implemented on a site.

Reply:RSS is a format for syndicating news and the content of news-like sites, including major news sites like Wired, news-oriented community sites like Slashdot, and personal weblogs. But it's not just for news. Pretty much anything that can be broken down into discrete items can be syndicated via RSS: the "recent changes" page of a wiki, a changelog of CVS checkins, even the revision history of a book. Once information about each item is in RSS format, an RSS-aware program can check the feed for changes and react to the changes in an appropriate way.

RSS-aware programs called news aggregators are popular in the weblogging community. Many weblogs make content available in RSS. A news aggregator can help you keep up with all your favorite weblogs by checking their RSS feeds and displaying new items from each of them.

You can find the rest of the information from the below given source link.

Also, Yahoo 360 doesn't work with all feeds. It recognizes the well-known websites (I.E. BBC, The New York Times feeds, etc) than lesser known websites.

Free service that sends RSS Feeds to MY email.?

I am looking for an absolutely free online service or software program that I can type an RSS Feed URL into, and have it send updates/posts from the RSS feed directly to my email as they are posted.

The more functionality the better, as I would like to have some say as to how many emails I am sent a day, graphics/no graphics, etc.

Please make sure the service actually works before posting a reply, as I've tried several found on Google that do not work at all.

The main thing is being able to specify multiple RSS feed addresses, and letting it do the work for me.

Thanks in advance for your help. I appreciate it.

How can I add a RSS feed to my website?

I will be putting my updated website on line in a week or so. I am planning on using a CSS scripted site, or a simple HTML site. It is a band showcase site, and we will be updating band information weekly usually. I feel it will be easier to create a RSS feed, that I will be able to program into my myspace site, and have people subscribe to the RSS feed. However, being a partial "NOOB" to the web programming world, I don't know what program to use to create the RSS feed. I don't know what web host to use either, since I feel that I am too limited with my former host, Yahoo Small Buisness.

I could use some suggestions to hosts that incorporate RSS into the hosting plan, at an extremely affordable rate. I pay for the website out of pocket, and ask nothing in return from the multitude of bands I will be plugging around the world.

It will need to be a large download rate also. Figure about 150 bands each with a MP3 to download legaly. Also Player embed recomendations are also welcome.

Embed RSS feed into a .XML file?

So I have a fairly complex setup that runs a .swf to display images on a website. It pulls directly from local .jpg files through a .xml file. I want it to pull from an RSS feed I created THROUGH the .xml file. (it must go through the .xml for the .swf to work). Here's the code the .xml uses to pull from the local folder:

?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?%26gt;

%26lt;photos%26gt;

%26lt;!-- Place your photos here --%26gt;

%26lt;photo desc="Picture is from stock.xchng" url="_pics/1.jpg" /%26gt;

%26lt;photo desc="Picture is from stock.xchng" url="_pics/2.jpg" /%26gt;

%26lt;/photos%26gt;

I just want it to embed my .rss into this file so the .swf will look at the .xml and it will point to my feed.

Embed RSS feed into a .XML file?
You'll need the rss tag and it's required sub-markup tags.

%26lt;?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?%26gt;

%26lt;rss version="2.0"%26gt;

%26lt;channel%26gt;

%26lt;title%26gt;Your Title of the Feed%26lt;/title%26gt;

%26lt;description%26gt;Feed Description%26lt;/description%26gt;

%26lt;title%26gt;Item 1 Name%26lt;/title%26gt;

%26lt;description%26gt;Brief item description%26lt;/description%26gt;

%26lt;pubDate%26gt;Tue, 06 Nov 2007 09:06:53 EST%26lt;/pubDate%26gt;

%26lt;guid isPermaLink="true"%26gt;a unique id%26lt;/guid%26gt;

%26lt;link%26gt;http://photo url%26lt;/link%26gt;

%26lt;/item%26gt;

%26lt;item%26gt;...repeat for next picture...%26lt;/item%26gt;

About RSS feed for questions on Y!A?

To whomever it may concern,

I really like the new feature you have implemented where you can get an RSS feed for all the questions asked on Yahoo Answers. It is so compact and convenient to browse through the questions you posted long back, with number of answers and comments.

However, there is a problem in that feature, which is that you can only see the last 50 questions or so that you have posted. I would really appreciate if the feature could be extended to show ALL the questions you have posted since you joined Yahoo Answers.

Is it possible to implement that immediately? Or, is there an alternative way or tool by which I can get an RSS feed for all my questions?

SEO: RSS Feed Help?

Hi,

My sports forums page ranks in the top 100 with google, msn and yahoo. That being said, I feel once I add my RSS feeds to several major websites, my forums will take off in both ranking and visitors.

Do you agree this will help? Also, is there a list someone online where I can find directories where to submit my RSS Feeds?

I also need a list of directories where I can submit my forums with OUT linking back, as in one way linking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SEO: RSS Feed Help?
I don't get your question completely.But i wanna tell you that Rss feeds are availbe in java script , which you can get from yahoo search . just copy this java script and paste it into your forum. After doing it you will find one tag of yahoo at your forum page. When users click on that feed they can able to add your blog feed to their my yahoo page. I hope this help....

For answer of your second question http://how-to-answers.blogspot.com used to add good links in it.If you have good content in your blog you can request blog auther to add your link too...
Reply:For directories, you might try going through Robin Good's directory. It's several pages but you should be able to find the directories you need.

I don't follow the last part with the forums and out linking. If you're referring to having links to tag to various services like Digg, Reddit and so on, I would use FeedBurner and add the necessary flares.

Can images be displayed in RSS contents?

I have included the java script of an RSS on my site. The RSS URL is http://resources.ipott.com/blog/?feed=rs... There are images in the actual site, which are not being displayed in the RSS content. Is there a way to display images along with the RSS contents. Please somebody help.

Can images be displayed in RSS contents?
Yes you can include images in the description of an RSS feed or you can include the image as an enclosure. Does the feed have the images already imbedded in it? You must you an absolute url for any images (in other words it must be the full url http://www.domain.com/image.gif).

As far as displaying the feed, you may want to use PHP instead of Java Script so the contents of the feed can be spidered by the search engines.

The easiest/best way to do this is to use RSS2HTML a free PHP script. This means that you can retain the complete control of the HTML layout (using templates) and make it match your existing design. Additionally using PHP rather than JavaScript will mean that search engine spiders can "spider" the contents of the RSS feeds.

Reply:Make sure you are using a feed reader that displays the full content and not just the description. (The Firefox preview of feeds just shows the description).
Reply:Yes, but I'm not really sure how. Check out sites like Pageflakes. I have a pagecast for Somerset, which you can view here: http://www.pageflakes.com/chambers.rob/1... - this definately has images in feeds such as photo's and map's, I've also seen news feeds including images.

Best RSS feed for Yahoo Answers?

I use firefox RSS feeder and its rubbish, only shows about the first 15 letters of the question and cuts off the rest.

Does anybody use a decent RSS feeder for seeing the latest questions users ask.

The person to suggest the one I end up using gets 10 points.

I haven't used it myself for yahoo, but safari's RSS feed is pretty good in other things.

Wordpress RSS feeds: How do I add a link to comments?

I realize this question has been asked many times on multiple forums, but I just can't seem to absorb the instructions. I need it in as simple terms as possible.

I have Wordpress installed on my domain name. I'm using the default RSS feeds that came with the software. I want to add one line that will show a link to the Comments at the bottom of the entry.

I read that this is the code:

%26lt;link%26gt;%26lt;?php comment_link_rss() ?%26gt;%26lt;/link%26gt;

But it didn't work. Can anyone post the exact place in the php page where it should go?

Example, in atom.php, and I think the other is called rss2.php, something in that area.

I will be extremely grateful to get this working. Thanks!

Wordpress RSS feeds: How do I add a link to comments?
The comments should already be linked in your RSS feed. It will be inside the %26lt;comments%26gt; tag in RSS.

You can see it here: http://www.dougv.com/blog/feed/

Look at the source code: You'll see, in each %26lt;item%26gt;, a %26lt;comments%26gt; tag giving a link to the comments.

It may be that your RSS reader does not support the 2.0 specification and as such, does not properly interpret the %26lt;comments%26gt; tag. You can either reprogram your reader to support that tag or find a newer feed reader.

ATOM does not support the extensibility of adding a comments link to the feed.

Sounds like you might need a new copy of wp-rss2.php:

Save this file to the root folder of your blog and change the file extension to .php

How can I get REAL RSS channels on my psp???

I went to toonami jetstream and I tried to get the rss channel information because when I went to the rss channel menu on my psp all I got were samples, but when I read what toonami jetstream had on the site about rss the site just said "Copy and paste the Toonami Jetstream RSS into your favorite newsreader to keep up with the latest Toonami Jetstream news!". That wasn't helpful because I tried it in the psp's web address bar and that didn't work either all it gave me was a html page.

Thank you for helping me if you posted an answer and sorry for grammatical erros.

The RSS subscribe button on my Web site just brings up text - I would guess the rss.xml file. Any fixes?

Look at my site - livinginrhyme.com - click on Blog, then the RSS subscribe button, and you can see what I'm talking about.

The RSS subscribe button on my Web site just brings up text - I would guess the rss.xml file. Any fixes?
Safari and other KHTML-based browsers are sensitive to the MIME types used when files are sent. Your RSS feed is being sent as "application/xhtml+xml", but the proper MIME type for an RSS feed is "application/rss+xml" according to RFC 3023. The PNG icon has the right MIME type, so I'm not sure why that isn't displaying right for you.

Your site appears to be hosted on an Apache server, so try creating a file named ".htaccess" in the Blog directory and putting the following line in there:

AddType application/rss+xml xml

That should fix your RSS problem.
Reply:It all depends on what browser your visitors are using. Some will format RSS feeds by default others don't.

For instance on a PC Internet Explorer 6 will not automatically detect a link as an RSS feed while Internet Explorer 7 will. Firefox does as well. On a Mac Safari will format it correctly, but Camino won't necessarily.

Now that you have a website you need to be aware that your visitors use a range of web browsers to access your site.

There are ways to make it easier for people to sign up to your RSS feed.

I'd suggest submitting your link to feedburner.com

That will direct visitors to a page where they can subscribe to your feed more easily. You can also get lots of useful stats on who is using you RSS feed.

I use Google Reader to view all my feeds. It's free, and because I view it in a browser, I'm not tied to any particulat machine or location to access the feeds that I'm interested in.

Good luck with the site.

By the way, you can download IE7 for free from microsoft.com

Just out of interest which browser are you using.

How to create a style sheet for xml, rss feeds?

This small style sheet will make all your descriptions in your feed underlined

%26lt;style type="text/css"%26gt;

%26lt;/style%26gt;

you can save this style sheet in file, example "style.css" and attach to your feed.

they?

Invalid RSS Feed character?
The error is probably because you're using XML reserved characters in the text area. Reserved characters are double, quote, ampersand, greater than and less than.

From looking at the XML code from your question I see two issues the first is with the enclosure. The attribute url contains greater than before the url which is wrong. The second is the title attribute missing a closing double quote.

You can use the http://feedvalidator.org/ site to validate your rss xml.

I've correct the issues in the example below but I haven't checked it is valid in itunes as it still needs work.

Need rss feed for specific language?

I'm using the yahoo rss feed to a website. I'd like to filter out news in a single language. (Icelandic). I can do this by changing the prefs on the yahoo search page but there is nothing in the url that indicates language as far as I know. So as long as I'm on the yahoo webpage it works but on another website it will not. Is there a way to indicate language in the rss url?

This RSS feed is for news about Iceland in Icelandic.

http://news.search.yahoo.com/news/rss;_y...

The language is indicated in the URL with this code: "%26amp;vl=lang_is".

Norweigian would be indicated with this code: "%26amp;vl=lang_no".

Hi there,

Is the problem with all the feeds or only a specific feed?

If it is with all the RSS feeds, I suggest uninstalling and reinstalling your Thunderbird. (Some files might have got corrupted)

If the problem is with specific feeds, try checking the validity of the feed at

No RSS feeds for moderated groups?

I subscribe to a couple of groups that are moderated (group leader has to approve messages) and I noticed there is no option for RSS feed on these groups. Is this by design or is there some other reason they don't have RSS feeds?

No RSS feeds for moderated groups?
I didn't know the answer to this one, so I went searching so we both can learn something new today lol

The one thing I was reading was if the owner has the messages part to public, then the RSS feed will be seen and can be linked to My Yahoo. If he/she has it set to moderators only/members only, then it cannot be accessed, and the RSS link will not show up in the messages section.

Try searching for an "RSS Directory" in the search engine.

YouTube has videos explaining RSS.

You can display and provide links for your Y!A questions, your starred questions, and the news that interests you on your Y!360 and MySpace pages with an RSS feed.

http://myspace.com/22449233

http://360.yahoo.com/profile-Kghdibk0bak...

The feed for my questions in MySpace updates faster than the one in my Y!360.

This website is for displaying RSS feeds in MySpace.

http://rssonmyspace.com

It provides links to the RSS source.

This website is for displaying RSS feeds in MySpace, Blogger, html, email, Google, Friendster, Hi5, and Xanga.

http://springwidgets.com/express/getFeed...

It displays images but does not provide links to the RSS source.

For Y!360:

Find your list of questions.

To the right of your most recent question you will see the RSS link.

Click on it with the right button then left click on copy shortcut (URL).

Or you can double click the RSS link and then copy the URL from your address bar.

In your Y!360 click "My Page."

http://360.yahoo.com/

Click "Add a Feed (via RSS)" or click "Edit Feeds."

Right click on one of the three boxes then left click on paste (the short cut - URL).

Then save.

You can also display information from:

Yahoo! News (for specific subjects like your state, country, or corporation)

http://news.yahoo.com/rss

MSN News

BBC News

Craigslist, Digg, Netflix, YouTube, and many periodicals,

and blogs from MySpace, Y!360 and other blog websites.

The RSS link for Y!360 blogs is in the orange box at the bottom of the blog page.
Reply:That is how it SHOULD work :)

There is a good explanation of RSS here http://www.xul.fr/en-xml-rss.html

What you saw was the actual feed, which lists the updates in a format that is convenient for computers, not people. You probably saw it because the web site was badly set up. It's supposed to tell your browser that it's sending an rss feed, before it just fires out the data.

When that doesn't happen, your computer doesn't know it's getting a feed, and it just tries to display it for you, instead of subscribing you.

They may fix it in a while. Try again later - or try a different feed.

If it happens to all feeds, it may be your browser that doesn't know how to deal with feeds. Try the latest version of firefox at http://firefox.com.

I need to convert 6 RSS feeds into a single RSS feed in PHP without resort to external services...?

I need to form a new single RSS feed out of 6 external RSS feeds. Each external feed has a timestamp for each entry, so that as I create the array in PHP, I will sort the results by descending date/time and publish the most recent 30 as a new RSS feed. I'm aware of the many free and paid sites that will aggregate feeds very easily, but I am not allowed to use them in this case. I'm not a bad programmer but have little free time for this task - does anyone know of any open source (NO PAID SOLUTIONS PLEASE!) solutions or web-pages that could speed me along...?

I need to convert 6 RSS feeds into a single RSS feed in PHP without resort to external services...?
If you already have your own script to display one rss feed, then it shouldn't be too hard to display information from multiple feeds. You seem to be on the right track, though. How are you currently storing the external feeds? All you have to do is store them in a database and the rest is easy.
Reply:You can use RSSmesh and RSSFilter, both are PHP scripts they will merge and filter duplicate items.

I want to create an RSS feed for my site to let people know when we have new products in stock.?

I would like people to be able to get the RSS feed off the site and somehow show them daily updating top selling products or our new arrivals.

I've read a lot about RSS in trying to do this, but it seems like everything I've seen is about more news/blog type rss feeds. What are my options to do what I've mentioned above? RSS creator company suggestions?

I want to create an RSS feed for my site to let people know when we have new products in stock.?
You can either manually create a feed or you could use a script to dynamically create the feeed. The easiest way to manually create an RSS feed is to use software. The software I would recommend is FeedForAll (there is a Windows and a Mac version). There is a built-in wizard that will walk you through the process of creating a feed.

You can download an evaluation version from http://www.feedforall.com

If you prefer to create the feed by hand this website details how to hand code the RSS feed http://www.make-rss-feeds.com

If the existing products are already in a database you can use a PHP script SQL2RSS to create the RSS feed from the existing database. Details on the SQL2RSS script can be found here: http://www.feedforall.com/sql2rss.htm

PSP RSS problem?

I was using the RSS feature in the psp and it worked perfectly.

The next time i came to using it, it froze when i typed in something and then when i managed to go back i started it up again and it said the connection was not found.

I then started up the internet browser (which worked perfectly before) it also said the connection was not found.

The next day i tried again and the internet browser worked but the RSS feature didn't (the connection was found this time but when i typed in something and pressed add sample nothing happened)

Is there a way to fix this please help i really liked the feature and it just stopped working if you don't know how to fix it can you at least tell what went wrong.

If you need me to add any other information please just ask.

PSP RSS problem?
The solution to your problem may be found easier if you find where the cause is. To do this, try finding a different RSS feed to connect to. If you're able to access another RSS feed, then the website holding the original one you liked might be down, in which case it's a technical problem they might be experiencing.

If you're unable to access either RSS feed, yet the internet still works, then the fault does lay in the RSS programming or settings of your PSP, and this will need sorting out.

If you're unable to access either RSS feed and nothing else on the internet works, then your problem may be your connection to the internet or the PSP itself.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Making RSS feeds work with 360 page?

I've checked through some of the information on this site, and I can't find anything that seems to answer my question. When I copy an RSS URL to paste into the RSS page, the browser window indicates that Yahoo couldn't retrieve the webpage. These are the correct URLs for the feeds, as far as I can determine. My browser is IE 7.0, so I don't think it needs to be updated. What is wrong? Yahoo help - wasn't.

Thanks, y'all.

Making RSS feeds work with 360 page?
Sometimes, there is a problem retrieving the RSS feeds, and it's probably just a glitch involving 360 more than anything. Usually, if you try again later, it works. However, there are some cases in which there is nothing to "grab onto," like trying to insert the RSS of a user (like me) who has never asked a question (yet), or of a deleted question. The feeds will only show results if results can be found at the moment, so you might want to try again later. Sometimes the site is down all together, like when you try to edit your settings but keep getting the "page cannot be displayed" message, so this is just one of those things you come to expect with a glitchy site like Yahoo! 360.

Can RSS feeds be tracked like websites visited?

What can System Admins see from RSS feeds and how do RSS feeds affect internet traffic?

Can RSS feeds be tracked like websites visited?
anything that goes through the proxy will be visible. question you want to ask youself is "will they bother looking?" if this is a workplace there is going to be so much traffic that it will be hard to find. you run a bigger risk of your RSS aggregator bumping up against the proxy with a wrong password (this assumes a windows domain where the network password also gets you access to the internet and the password has to change every 90 days)...when you change your network password, failed authentication will come from the RSS aggregator and the network team will find out.

RSS feeds impact bandwidth because you will be using work bandwidth for personal reasons. bandwidth is a commoditity and engineering teams decide how much bandwidth is necessary based on work requirements rather than personal use requirements.
Reply:Measuring and tracking RSS while a fairly simple concept, is really anything but. Unlike websites, RSS have the added caveat of potential syndication, making accurate tracking a challenge to anyone but the extremely tech savvy. It is not unrealistic for marketers to want to know how many subscribers they have, which items in their feeds attract the most interest, or how many click-throughs are generated as a result of an RSS feed.There are a number of 3rd party providers who focus on tracking the consumption of RSS feeds. Some solutions are rudimentary but likely sufficient for a small business testing the waters with RSS. Other RSS tracking solutions are more complex and while they can come close to being accurate, with syndication there is no solution that tracks with 100% accuracy.

Psp rss channel?
If You did not create it and you do not have permission to distrubute under your login or name or whatever, then yes it is illegal.

Everything created has an inherit copyright. The person who created it uploaded it for viewing under his/her login -if you download and re-upload under your login you have taken his property and put your login name on it - you are implying to the viewer of your copy that you are responsible for creating and or distributing it or have permissions to distrubute.

With Copyright lawsuits and with the copyright issues You Tube already has it's not advisable.

Even with rss channels copyright is copyright.

How to save rss feeds to a .txt file automaticly.?

How to save rss feeds to a .txt file automaticly.

Im trying to build an LED matrix that can scroll RSS feeds, but fist i need a way for the rss feed to be converted to a .txt file and saved.

any software ideas or any information at all would be great.

How to save rss feeds to a .txt file automaticly.?
Um ... you don't indicate how you are retrieving the RSS feeds, so it's difficult to answer.

But there's nothing stopping you from saving any XML doc as a text file in any language.

For example, if you get the file via fopen() in PHP, you can simply use fwrite() to make a new text file:

%26lt;?php

$in = fopen('http://site.com/rss.rss', 'r') or die('Cannot open RSS feed');

while(feof( $in ) ) {

$data .= fgets( $in );

}

fclose($in);

$out = fopen('rss.txt', 'w') or die('Cannot create output file');

fwrite($out, $data);

fclose($out);

Want more traffic? An easy way to distribute your news? Then you need an RSS news feed. To start all you need is content you want broadcast, and one RSS text file.

What is RSS?

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a lightweight XML format designed for sharing headlines and other Web content. Think of it as a distributable "What's New" for your site. Originated by UserLand in 1997 and subsequently used by Netscape to fill channels for Netcenter, RSS has evolved into a popular means of sharing content between sites (including the BBC, CNET, CNN, Disney, Forbes, Motley Fool, Wired, Red Herring, Salon, Slashdot, ZDNet, and more). RSS solves myriad problems webmasters commonly face, such as increasing traffic, and gathering and distributing news. RSS can also be the basis for additional content distribution services.

RSS Syntax

RSS defines an XML grammar (a set of HTML-like tags) for sharing news. Each RSS text file contains both static information about your site, plus dynamic information about your new stories, all surrounded by matching start and end tags.

Each story is defined by an %26lt;item%26gt; tag, which contains a headline TITLE, URL, and DESCRIPTION. Here's an example:

...

%26lt;item%26gt;

%26lt;title%26gt;RSS Resources%26lt;/title%26gt;

%26lt;link%26gt;%26lt;/link%26gt;http://www.webreference.com/authoring/la...

%26lt;description%26gt;Defined in XML, the Rich Site Summary (RSS) format has

quietly become a dominant format for distributing headlines on the Web.

Our list of links gives you the tools, tips and tutorials you need to get

started using RSS. 0323%26lt;/description%26gt;

%26lt;/item%26gt;

...

Each RSS channel can contain up to 15 items and is easily parsed using Perl or other open source software. If you want more details on creating RSS files see Jonathan Eisenzopf's excellent article in the February issue of Web Techniques. But you don't have to worry about the details, we've made it easy to create your own RSS channel with free open source scripts, all Web based. More on these later.

Once you've created and validated your RSS text file, register it at the various aggregators, and watch the hits roll in. Any site can now grab and display your feed regularly, driving traffic your way. Update your RSS file, and all the external sites that subscribe to your feed will be automatically updated. What can be easier? But wait, there's more.

Non Associated Press RSS?

I have a web portal http://www.wormportal.com and I use RSS feeds to fill the News pages. It seems that all the news out there that is available through RSS providers (Yahoo, MSN, AOL, etc...) feed in just about only AP (associated press) news stories. I absolutely do not want AP filling my pages due to their extreme left wing and anti-American tilt. What are non-AP RSS sources that would be available?

Non Associated Press RSS?
Here are a couple for starters, but you should note that some of them state you can only use them for non-commercial purposes:

Fox:

PDA first timer - RSS feeds?

I am going to buy an inexpensive PDA at ebay. My main aim is to read RSS feeds while I am going to school by train.

I am newbie and don't know much about PDAs. If I buy a PDA without WLAN 802.11b, can I synchronize pda with my PC and still read RSS feeds or Do I have to purchase a pda with WLAN 802.11b to read rss feeds.

Thanks,

Thanks,

PDA first timer - RSS feeds?
If you buy a pda telephone you can sync feeds using GPRS with a telephone subscription. However the cheapest way is to sync via your pc at home and then read the news off line when you want. You would not need wither phone or wlan for this. You would not be able to refresh the news until you are at your pc again.

Avantgo would be a good program to sync news and other sites.

Know any good RSS readers?

I'm trying to find a good RSS reader, but I can't find any. I want one that will notify me, with a pop-up window or something, whenever it has found something new. I also don't want to have to manually tell it to look for updates, I want it to do that automatically. So basically, I want it to be constantly running in the background, and just notify me when something has been added to one of my feeds.

PS: I know about the RSS reader in Internet Explorer, but I use Firefox, so that RSS reader is useless to me.

Know any good RSS readers?
There are 2 which I high recommend. The first is RSSOwl (http://www.rssowl.org/) and the second is Abilon (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fi...

RSSOwl

We are happy to announce that the next milestone of RSSOwl 2.0 is now available for download. This release comes with some very cool features:

* Live update of saved searches

* Notification popup when receiving news

* Faster search and relevance indicator

A flash demo showing the new features in action is available as well. If you have used previous versions of RSSOwl 2.0, make sure to read the notes on how to update to milestone 6.

Abilon: (reviewed by PC World Magazine in their article "101 Fabulous Freebies")

Software-based news readers are generally the fastest, and it's hard to beat Abilon. This powerful, speedy reader offers you a choice of views: You can opt for a three-pane view with feeds on the left, headlines in the middle, and articles on the right; or you can switch to a two-column view. It has a built-in tabbed browser, too. One tool lets you quickly and easily post items to your Blogger, LiveJournal, or Movable Type blog. And finally, Abilon speedily imports and exports OPML (Outline Processor Markup Language) files, which are crucial for transferring your list of subscriptions to another news reader.

Problem adding an RSS Feed to My Yahoo?

Try searching for an "RSS Directory" in the search engine.

YouTube has videos explaining RSS.

You can display and provide links for your Y!A questions, your starred questions, and the news that interests you on your Y!360 and MySpace pages with an RSS feed.

The feed for my questions in MySpace updates faster than the one in my Y!360.

This website is for displaying RSS feeds in MySpace.

This website is for displaying RSS feesd in MySpace, Blogger, html, email, Google, Friendster, Hi5, and Xanga.

MSN News

BBC News

Craigslist, Digg, Netflix, YouTube, and many periodicals,

and blogs from MySpace, Y!360 and other blog websites.

Is there an rss feed for a users answers?

There is an rss feed avaliable for the questions I have asked. But, is there one for the answers I have given? I know that there is rss for each individual question but I would like to add my answers to my 360 page.

It would be even cooler if there were an rss feed for answers given that were chosen as best answers.

Is there an rss feed for a users answers?
no not at this time.
Reply:Lazy programmers should put down the Nerf guns and get back to work. *whip cracks*

Rss isn't difficult. Report It

Reply:Right now there is only one for your questions. You can, however, put the Answers badge into your blog. This is not working for Yahoo! 360 pages yet. I do believe that it is working for other blogs. If you would like to make any suggestions to the Team, you can email them: http://answers.yahoo.com/my/profile;_ylt...
Reply:Hmm...I was wondering the same thing...if you go to your "My Q%26amp;A" page, and look bottom right, and click on the RSS button, a page comes up in html language. I wonder, if some of those "default" lines, could be changed to suit the "best answers" section/page of our own profiles? What do you think? I know NOTHING about html, but it doesn't look like its that hard to do, does it (look at what I'm talking about first before answering! LOL)?? Get back to me...in the meantime...I'll be working on it.

The ONLY thing that might stop this...is the link's name itself. Even if you change the html, its not saved on Yahoo!'s computer so there really isn't any way...ah well, maybe Yahoo! Answers will give us this one day, so we can put our best on our 360 page!

You might could name the link something, save it to an online file system you are a member of, and do it that way, other than that.....can't see it happening.

Umm...I'm a "running thinker"....so updating as I think this through! :)

fcontent[2]="i LIKE EGG FRIED SUSHI.%26lt;/a%26gt;";

How to make RSS feeds fade in and out, code included.? (Javascript)?
Your going to have to read the RSS feed and then just use a loop on the fcontent like:

var xmlContent = feedXML.split();

for (var i = 0; i %26lt; xmlContent.length; i++) {

fcontent[i] = xmlContent[i];

}

Your going to need to use an RSS feed application in a server side language then just query the rss feed into the javascript, and manipulate the content! :)

Explain about RSS feed?

I do not know any think about RSS Feed. I think its a good thing. I like to know about the basics of RSS Feed. For what does it be used? For whom will be it useful? What is the requirement for creating an RSS Feed?

Explain about RSS feed?
There are three main ways you could approach using RSS in your daily interactions online.

Web

You could use a free online service to aggregate the contents of your chosen feeds. Most popular of them all would be Bloglines, but of course you can easily search online for more. See [1].

Local

Another option is to run an application locally from your computer. Many of these programs exist nowadays, so you're really spoilt for choice in this department. See [2] for a partial list of popular programs.

Email

Yes, read RSS via email! Many people are doing this now. It's a brilliant little hack if you don't mind getting a few extra posts per day. See [3].

Enjoy RSS!

Really Simple Syndication (a.k.a. RDF Site Summary or Rich Site Summary) is a format that uses XML to syndicate Web content--typically news headlines, a few lines of text, or a short article summary. When a Web site creates an RSS document and registers it with an RSS publisher, you can use a service like the SBC Yahoo! portal to read updated headlines from that site on your homepage.

**********

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication." It's a format that web sites and blogs can use to send updated headlines to you via services like SBC Yahoo! Home Page. You can select content from a variety of RSS sources, and SBC Yahoo! Home Page displays it for you in one convenient location.

Syndication means you don't have to visit each site individually to see what's new -- you simply scan headlines or brief article summaries and click to read the full text. That's the "really simple" part. And it's "really simple" for publishers to make their content accessible this way too.

What are the benefits of receiving syndicated headlines via RSS?

There are many benefits to accessing headlines and information this way:

*Efficiency: Timely news and information is automatically there when you need it.

*Breadth: Headlines from the web sources you care about are consolidated.

*Organization: Sources can be displayed in order of importance with the latest news on top.

*Productivity: Email newsletter subscriptions and unruly bookmarks can lead to clutter and information overload.

Ultimately, you save time while consuming more information. Instead of browsing multiple sites to find information of interest, syndicated headlines are delivered directly to your SBC Yahoo! Home Page page. And they are consolidated in a way that's easy to scan throughout the day. When a headline interests you, just click and go directly to the source.

More questions about RSS? See our RSS FAQ @ http://dsl.sbc.yahoo.com/s/sbc/about/rss...
